It’s easy to obtain your prescription. You may still have a prescription card from a previous appointment or, alternatively, can also contact your optometrist/eye specialist who will have a record of your prescription. Please make sure that your prescription card contains all relevant information such as strength, cylinder, axis and pupillary distance. If you need a new prescription you can get an eye test done free of charge in selected VIU stores, at one of our partner opticians or with any other optician.

No, unfortunately that isn't possible. While the contact lens is worn directly on the eye, there is a distance between the eye and the glasses. Therefore, the prescription for glasses differs from the one for contact lenses and can't be used to order VIU glasses.

Yes, we also offer reading glasses. If you want to buy reading glasses choose 'Prescription glasses' and add the model to your shopping cart. You will be given the option to upload your prescription before completing the purchase.

Yes, this is possible! Progressive lenses, however, require an additional measurement which can be taken free of charge at selected VIU stores. Certainly! You can order both glasses and sunglasses without prescription. Before adding a product to your shopping cart, you can choose between "prescription" and "No prescription". The latter will give you beautiful VIU glasses without prescription lenses. In the ordering process, if you choose "prescription" you, furthermore, have the possibility of ordering glasses with plain glass or just the frame itself. Our sunglasses are also available with black, brown or green polarised lenses.

The pupillary distance (PD) measures the distance between the centre of your eye pupils and is measured in millimetres. The PD is required to align the optical centre of your lenses with the centre of your eyes. It is common to measure the pupillary distance for your left and right eye separately. The value usually lies somewhere between 25 mm and 40 mm per side. If the pupillary distance (PD) is not part of your prescription card, we recommend one of the following options: 1. You can use our online PD measurement tool (pd.shopviu.de) and measure it yourself 2. Free measurement at our flagshipstores 3. You may call your optician/eye specialist to obtain the PD information - these specialists are required to provide this information to their customers. You may also conduct a quick measurement at one of our partner opticians. The measurement itself should not take any longer than 2 minutes and will be reasonably cheap 4. Alternatively, you may also get a full eyesight test

Basically yes! We offer prescription glasses for shortsighted and longsighted people up to -/+ 8 dioptries (sphere value). For dioptries above +/-2 dioptries, we recommend extra thin lenses, which can be selected during the check-out process. Please note that special centring measurements are required for strengths from +/-4dpt or for a corneal curvature greater than -2dpt. These measurements can only be carried out in our stores or by our partner opticians. Simply visit us in your nearest VIU store.

Sphere (Sph.): The sphere value describes the power of the lenses. If you are shortsighted, then there is a "-" before the sphere value. For longsighted people, the sphere value is "+". If the +/- sign is missing, then the value is positive. Cylinder (cyl.): The cylinder value defines how astigmatism is corrected. Cylinder values can be positive or negative which is depicted by the "+" or "-" sign in front of the value. Always make sure to use the correct prefix when submitting your cylinder values. Axis (A.): The axis value is needed to adjust the lenses correctly. Axis can assume values between 0° and 180°. The pupillary distance (PD) measures the distance between the centre of your eye pupils and is measured in millimetres. It is common to measure the pupillary distance for your left and right eye separately. The value usually lies somewhere between 25 mm and 40 mm per side. If there is only one value (total distance) on your prescription card you can also use this value in the ordering process. Addition (Add): This value is only used for progressive glasses.
